Sunday, September 16th to Saturday, September 22nd, 2018

“I look for the beauty present before me and then enhance it with even more color.  I try to portray more than it is in a fun and imaginative way.”

Jacqueline is a member of the Red Chair Gallery in Bend, OR, the Watercolor Society of Oregon, and the High Desert Art League.  She teaches watercolor workshops at her Tumalo studio, the Art Unraveled Art Retreats in Phoenix, the Art & Soul Retreats in Portland, and online with the Artful Gathering Art Retreat.   She has conducted watercolor workshops in Provence, France and Orvieto, Italy.  Her Interweave Workshop DVD:  Art Journals On-The-Go: How to pack, prep, paint, and more as well as her self-published book, Watercolor Journeys, are helpful guides for beginning to advanced watercolor enthusiasts.  Jacqueline has written many articles about keeping a watercolor travel journal and her art has been featured in magazines such as Somerset Studio’s Art Journaling, Interweave Press’s Cloth Paper Scissors, and Studios.  Watch for her upcoming article in the July/August issue of the Cloth Paper Scissors magazine.  Her painting, Looking Up will be included in the new Splash 18 book, the Best of Watercolor, July, 2017.

“I am happiest when I am painting, when I can get lost in my art.  Each drawing I make, each painting I paint, brings me joy.”

Painting the Italian Light and Color in Your Watercolor Journal

“Create a a visual diary as you slow down, observe, and savor your time in Italy.”

Join Jacqueline Newbold on a journey of artistic discovery.  Orvieto, the charming village perched on a rock cliff in Umbria, Italy, will be our home base as we paint and have fun creating art in our watercolor journals.  We will make a visual diary using watercolor paintings, and mixed-media journaling ideas as we treasure our time together in Italy.  Jacqueline will share with you her favorite ideas for painting-on-the-go using watercolor washes, water-soluble pens, pen and ink drawings, and much more.  You will discover how magically enjoyable it is to record your life voyages with watercolors!

Umbria offers the quintessential Italian experience - rich with idyllic charm, warm colors, and wonderful inspiration for developing your artistic eye.  Sitting majestically above the valley floor, Orvieto overlooks the cypress-dotted plains below.  When painting en plein air or in our studio, Jacqueline will help you simplify the scene before you so that you will be able to transform the colors and shapes into sketches and paintings in your watercolor journal.  The Etruscan color palette will inspire us as we experiment with luscious ochres and rich gem-tones from the past.  Exploring the streets of this historic village, we will discover stone archways, quaint alleyways, charming Italian piazzas, the Duomo of Orvieto, Gothic and medieval designs, and lush flowers cascading from village windows – every corner becomes a painting just waiting to be painted.

This workshop is available for all levels – beginners and experienced artists are all invited to come along on this fantastic journey!
