Thinking about joining us in May for The Art of Mindful Meandering with Leaca Young? Read on to learn a little more about her!

What are you most excited about in visiting Orvieto?
I adore the caves and the charming little shops. Last time, I regretted not buying a pair of handmade leather shoes, so this time that’s at the top of my list.

What do you hope your students will take away from your class?
I hope they leave with a mindful approach to combining travel and journaling. My wish is that they release the pressure of “documenting everything” and instead discover how to be fully present in their travel experiences.

What is it about teaching in Orvieto that’s so special?
There’s a unique energy in Orvieto that stays with you long after you leave. It’s a place that imprints on your heart—the atmosphere, the history, and most of all, the people.

How do you incorporate Orvieto/Italy in your teaching this week?
I have a few surprises planned for the group, but mostly I want to guide us into being deeply present in each moment. We’ll gather scraps and treasures from the places we visit—little fragments that will bring our journals to life with the essence of Orvieto.

What cultural experience are you most looking forward to?
Italy is a full-sensory experience—the food, the wine, the architecture, the art, the history, and of course the people. On my first trip, I was in a kind of joyful sensory overload. This time, I want to soak it in more slowly and intentionally, fully immersing myself in the experience.

What are you most excited to share with your students?
My style of travel journaling is personal and unique, and I’m excited to share it while also learning from what my students bring. My husband and I combine our perspectives when we travel, weaving both our voices into my journal. We make lists, choose a “word” for each experience, and I often incorporate the thoughts of anyone traveling with us. It makes the journal a shared story, not just a record of my own reflections. I’ll also share creative tips and artistic touches that help make each page come alive.

Do you have a favorite spot to people watch?
Always outdoors! Whether it’s sitting at a café for a meal or wandering through the piazzas in the evening, I love observing the rhythm of life around me and soaking in the atmosphere.

What’s your favorite flavor of gelato?
Pistachio—always pistachio!

Anything else you’d like to add?
I’m just deeply grateful to be returning to Orvieto and to share this experience with fellow creatives. I know it will be a week of inspiration, connection, and memories that will last a lifetime.
