Meet Jacqueline

Using a warm and lively palette, Jacqueline Newbold is known for her award-winning watercolor paintings. She enjoys painting colorful landscapes, cityscapes, and florals, and capturing interesting, detailed views of Italian culture. Much of her inspiration for her larger paintings comes from her travels. “I first visited Orvieto in 2012 and fell in love with the quaint charming town and knew right away that this was a painter’s paradise! Even the Istituto San Lodovico, our comfortable lodging, inspires me.” When traveling, Jacqueline always brings her watercolor art journal and a few watercolor painting supplies. She has many ideas for incorporating mixed media and treasured ephemera, which add vitality and life to her travel journals.
Jacqueline is a member of the Red Chair Gallery in Bend, Oregon, the Watercolor Society of Oregon, and the High Desert Art League. She teaches watercolor workshops in the U.S. as well as in Provence, France, and Orvieto, Italy. Her Interweave Workshop DVD: Art Journals On-the-Go: How to pack, prep, paint, and more as well as her self-published book, Watercolor Journeys, are helpful guides for beginning to advanced watercolor enthusiasts. Jacqueline has written many articles about keeping a watercolor travel journal and her art has been featured in magazines such as Somerset Studio and Art Journaling and Interweave Press’s Cloth Paper Scissors. Her painting, “Looking Up”, is featured in the Splash 18 book the Best of Watercolor.

YOUR TIME WITH JACQUELINE INCLUDES:
Umbria is rich with sights, sounds, and colors – all wonderful inspiration for developing your artistic eye. Explore the cobbled stone streets of historic Orvieto, ancient stone archways, and alleyways. The Italian piazzas, the Duomo di Orvieto, and colorful flowers cascading from windows make every corner a possible painting. As you paint plein-air, Jacqueline will help you simplify the scene before you so that you can transform the colors and shapes into sketches and paintings in your watercolor journal. Let the Etruscan palette inspire you as you experiment with luscious ochres and rich gem-toned colors from the past. You won’t just be observing and painting your time in Orvieto, you will be experiencing it in a new, invigorating, and lasting way!
You will have studio time as well as time to paint out and about in the town. During your studio time, Jacqueline will demonstrate watercolor sketching and painting techniques and give students lots of one-on-one feedback. When you return home, you will have your watercolor journal, more unique than any photo album, filled with memories of our time together.
